IT achievements of India in 2010

Bangalore: 2010 has been a good year for the Indian IT industry with a healthy growth. Putting behind fiscal 2009-10 as a year of downturn, when the annual growth plunged to six percent after a scorching cumulative growth of 25-30 percent during the previous four years, the industry returned to double-digit growth in this fiscal (2010-11), thanks to renewed investments by all the firms across verticals in IT infrastructure, software and back office services.


Intel

In 2010, Intel tried to extend Moore's Law with further advancements in 32 nanometer processors through the launch of the Intel Core family of processors, and made significant inroads in such growth businesses as netbooks, smart TVs, in-vehicle infotainment, and a variety of additional consumer electronic devices and connected embedded machines.



Intel's minority stake in the Bangalore-based Omnesys Technologies, attempt to bringout affordable PCs for the Indian market and the launch of the Atom processor E600 series in the country are some of the major achievements in 2010.

Wipro

In 2010, Wipro was featured in FinTech rankings on Top 25 Enterprise companies published by the American Banker and Bank Technology News, and IDC Financial Insights. The company also launched New European Development Centre in Budapest, Hungary.



Wipro became the first Indian company to join Greenpeace's Cool IT Leaderboard rankings that assesses companies on their commitments and actions on energy and climate solutions. U.S. department of defence present Wipro with the "Patriot Award" - Honored for Extraordinary Support of Employees Who Serve in the Georgia National Guard and Reserv.
Cisco

With an aim to leverage better in the Indian market, Cisco India undertook an internal restructuring exercise in 2010 by moving from a geographical to a vertical based structure. Under the new structure, Cisco's India business is divided based on verticals: Education, Public Sector, Commercial, Channels, Service Providers, Services, Enterprise and BFSI.




In 2010 Cisco witnessed a strong growth in sectors like - enterprise, commercial and service provider. Borderless network, fabric based computing, next generation internet and expansion of its data center product and services portfolio are some of the major technological advancement in 2010.

Cadence Design Systems

In 2010, the semiconductor industry witnessed a drastic change and Cadence Design Systems has a role to play in it. Cadence recognized that India as a gateway to other economies and tried to meet the unique needs of India in various sectors starting from telecom, health care or education.



EDA360 CDNLive also helped to brings together Cadence technology users, developers, and industry experts to network, share best practices on critical design and verification issues, and discover new techniques for realizing advanced silicon, SoCs, and systems.
RSA

In 2010, RSA, the Security Division of EMC took the initiatives in creating employee awareness vigilance and to evolve their security capability to ensure that they can very quickly respond to malicious activities.

Indiabulls Securities' renewal of its partnership with RSA and the new RSA SecureID Software Token for the Android operating system are some of the other achievements that the company was involved in 2010.




All the firms' contributions to the IT growth have opened new horizons and opened a broader platform for even other sectors like animation. "2010 has been a breather for IT industry after global slowdown of 2008 & 2009. However, it is still a long way before the job market actual hits back. With sectors like Animation and Multimedia gathering more attention, 2010 saw a lot more of 3D and Animation being accepted and has opened up avenues for students to consider it as a career option," Said, Ninad Karpe, CEO & MD Aptech.
